Qualities of Belgrade
Belgrade is a beautiful city. I have seen many cities in Europe, but Belgrade has so many qualities that I have not found concentrated in other countries. The city is full of people but nobody is squeezed because there is so much space.
Belgrade (Beograd) is the capital of Serbia, having about 1,6 million inhabitants. It is located in the south-east of Europe, in the Balkan Peninsula, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe and since ancient times it has been an important traffic focal point, an intersection of the roads of Eastern and Western Europe.
Belgrade is the capital of Serbian culture, education, science and economy. As a result of its tumultuous history, a lot nations have been living in Belgrade for centuries, and Serbs of Orthodox christian religion are the majority of population (90%). The official language is Serbian, while foreigners are recommended to use English in communication.
The climate in Belgrade is moderate continental, with an average daily temperature of 11.7oC.
Belgrade is in the Central European Time (CET) zone (GMT+1 hour). Summer time counting lasts from end of March until end of October (GMT+2 hour).
The official monetary unit is dinar (CSD), but EURO will do as well.
Belgrade area code for domestic calls is 011, and for international calls it is +381-11.
There are about 1.000 sport facilities covering the whole territory of Belgrade. They are equipped for almost all present sports, at all levels of competition. This summary gives only the most important and the largest sport facilities.
Belgrade has hosted many important sport events, and Belgrade sport clubs have been European and World champions.
I have visited the Ada Ciganlija which is the artificial lake made on the river Sava, surrounding prior separated island with 7 kilometers of the beach, coffee shops and restaurants. It is full of people running around, rolling or driving the bycicle. This is for me California number two.
Now I spend some time in Belgrade with my cousin and her family. Beautiful city offers very cheap living cost and with many living qualities which can be hardly found anywhere else. Friendly people are very communicative, open and intelligent. I would like to invite everyone to come to Serbia and to visit Belgrade city.
